Pacer Safety Guidelines

For the safety and enjoyment of everyone, please follow these guidelines when running with a pacer.

1. Maintain a Safe Distance

Stay behind the pacer by about 1-2 strides. Avoid drafting too closely, as it can be distracting or uncomfortable for the pacer. Use the buddy system: follow the pacer by two runners.

2. Synchronize with the Pacer's Rhythm

Match the pacer's stride and cadence. Try to stay in sync with their pace and foot strike.

3. Avoid Passing Unless Invited

Unless the pacer explicitly invites you to pass or take the lead, refrain from doing so. Passing can disrupt the pacer's rhythm and affect their performance.

4. Communicate Your Needs

If you need to adjust your pace or take a break, communicate with the pacer. Use hand signals or verbal cues to indicate your needs when stopping or changing pace.

5. Trust the Pacer's Expertise

Pacers are there to help you achieve your goal pace. Trust their expertise and follow their lead. Avoid talking or disrupting the pacers.

6. Stay Focused

Maintain your own focus and rhythm. Don't get distracted by other runners or external factors. Avoid playing music out loud—some runners prefer a quiet environment to relax and enjoy the run.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I've never run before?

Perfect! Many of our members started as complete beginners. Join the Run-Walk or Walk group and our pacers will support you every step of the way.

Do I need to RSVP?

No RSVP needed for weekly runs. Just show up! For special events, we'll post RSVP details on our social media.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable running/athletic clothes and proper running shoes. For evening runs, wear bright or reflective clothing for visibility.

What's the route?

Routes vary by day and are typically 3-6 miles. Your pacer will explain the route before you start. Routes showcase beautiful parts of the Bronx.

What if I need to stop during the run?

No problem! Let your pacer know. We can slow down, take walking breaks, or you can sit one out. Listen to your body—safety comes first.

Can I bring my dog?

Unfortunately, no. Group runs move at different paces and stop at intersections, which can be difficult with dogs. We may plan dog-friendly runs in the future!

What happens in bad weather?

We run in light rain! For severe weather (lightning, extreme cold, etc.), we'll post cancellations on Instagram and the WhatsApp group by 5 PM.

Do you have changing facilities?

We meet at public parks and don't have dedicated facilities. Come dressed to run or change in your car. Some meetup locations have public restrooms.

Can I run faster/slower than my group?

For safety reasons, please stay with your assigned pace group. If you're consistently too fast or slow, your pacer can help you switch to a better-fitting group.

How do I become a regular member?

Just keep showing up! After a few runs, you'll be invited to our WhatsApp group where we share updates, photos, and race opportunities.

Still have questions?

We're here to help! Reach out to our team or just show up to a run and ask your pacer.
